Job Summary

Utilising detailed knowledge of the energy retail industry, ideally gained from first-hand operational experience or as a Business Analyst or Consultant, the Consultant will be involved in all aspects of Utiligroup’s client consultancy engagement, including;

  • Educating and supporting existing and potential customers through the delivery of knowledge transfer, implementation and product support;
  • Undertaking reviews of operational processes and providing guidance/ recommendations on operational process improvements;
  • Interpreting industry change requirements for customers and Utiligroup teams, looking ahead at future change requirements being identified by Industry bodies and regulatory bodies;
  • Identifying new opportunities resulting from industry process, Client engagement and business requirement changes, feeding these through into the Utiligroup roadmap process;
  • Utilisation of Utiligroup’s consultancy framework tools to identify and deliver revenue generating consultancy engagements to our Clients, maximising the benefit of those engagements to both Client and Utiligroup;
  • Demonstration of the following top 10 consultancy qualities: professionalism, time management, judgement, team player, good communication skills, expert knowledge, good listening, roles & responsibilities, involvement and reputation.

The Consultant should maintain and expand their industry knowledge ensuring it remains consistent with the latest industry baseline and cognisant of forthcoming industry change.   The Consultant will from time to time engage with Utiligroup partners and industry groups to identify solution requirements as a recognised Utiligroup product and industry expert.


  • Identify, scope and undertake consultancy engagements to Utiligroup clients, using operational experience and Utiligroup consultancy tools to identify areas of improvement and make recommendations that will provide tangible benefit to clients;
  • Producing accurate customer-facing documentation at appropriate levels of detail to support consultancy engagements;
  • To support clients with their understanding and implementation of Utiligroup’s product suite, delivering Consultancy and Knowledge Transfer sessions as applicable to their areas of knowledge and the needs of the team as a whole;
  • To proactively track specific areas of industry change and to identify where this may create areas of required change and/or potential opportunity for Utiligroup;
  • To represent Utiligroup at specific Industry forums;
  • Liaising with Utiligroup colleagues to share knowledge gained through Industry engagement;
  • Identifying and documenting impact to Utiligroup business processes, and standard Industry processes, as result of the implementation of Industry change programmes;
  • To participate in the Utiligroup roadmap process, identifying opportunities for existing product enhancement or new product development based on input from Industry and client engagement;
  • To support the sales process to provide professional advice and insight that will help secure the sale and to act as a source of continuous expertise throughout the sales, delivery, solution development and transitional activity;
  • To ensure knowledge is transferred across the entire Client Solutions team, such that there are no ‘single points of failure’.

About you (required)

  • Genuine enthusiasm for UK Energy Industry;
  • Proven experience in an appropriate role (e.g. Operational role or Business Analysis), with particular insight into the UK Electricity and Gas retail processes, with at least 2 years relevant experience;
  • Good overall understanding of Industry registration processes, the data that underpins them, and how they interact with each other;
  • Good understanding of the core industry rules and regulations, with detailed knowledge of at least two Industry codes (e.g. MRA, UNC, BSC, Smart Energy Code);
  • Desirable would be first-hand knowledge of Gas Industry processes, including the role of the Gas Shipper;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce client-facing documentation at the relevant level of detail;
  • Ability to collate information and present it in a concise and informative way, including experience in process modelling;
  • Strong attention to detail;
  • Strong problem solving, organisational and communication skills;
  • Ability to engage with clients at all levels of seniority;
  • Accurate and timely reporting of activities as required by team manager;
  • Flexibility to travel throughout the UK.
