UK beats coal free electricity generation record

The UK has beaten its previous record for the longest period of coal free electricity generation on Tuesday 28th April 2020, beating the 18 days set in 2018. Low energy demand & changing home usage patterns remove the need for coal plants to operate during the final stage of their contribution to the energy mix. National Grid ESO sent a tweet confirming the change. Read more here and at this article then about the progressive closure of UK coal plants at New Civil Engineer. The image shows Ratcliffe-on-Soar power station running towards it own closure near junction 24 of M1 in Nottinghamshire (image source PA). UK energy is becoming smarter and more sustainable for everyone. Contact us to discuss your participation & growth as energy supply, mobility & sustainability converge towards net-zero.

Considering our world on Earth Day #50

During work from home, we appreciate our surroundings as nature flourishes and birds fly with far less noise. Today is Earth Day #50, providing pause for thought and a spur to action. Learn more at Earth Day & twitter. Let's also buy plants from closed garden centres & support the NHS at Telegraph, SmartPlantapp & Plantsavers. We now only give packs of wildflower seeds at events as an example of our own shift to be more sustainable. Local rewilding is rewarding using BeeBomb to support bees & insects (nice gifts too). Read about our earlier action in Buzz posts. We are especially proud to help empower many green energy Suppliers. Together, let's make energy smarter (& more sustainable) for everyone.

Creativity during ‘Business As Unusual’

Working from home is now the new unnormal for everyone, with our teams quick to adjust & innovate. Utiligroup started its transition early, over a month ago to be ready to support our customers during their own changeover. Our wonderful team is constantly finding ways to be creative,  supportour customers and each other. It's a different time in society but our business carries on supporting energy leaders, making energy smarter and underpinning customer support by Suppliers. We look forward to a better shared future, but for now Utiligroup is live, engaging deeply with the energy sector and finding new ways to innovate. Managing 2020’s changing UK energy demand

In this unprecedented year, the pattern of energy use is changing due to work from home and low industrial demand. Demand is up at homes, with a smoothed morning peak while industrial demand is much reduced leading to complications in managing the national grid. During Summer 2020 it is possible demand will fall below the baseload generation with incentives needed to reduce production or increase demand flexibly. We may see more negative prices for our smarter energy demand at times. National Grid and Distribution System Operators quietly carry on delivering the energy and managing the networks to meet the different needs of energy for us all in 2020. We raise our mugs to them! Read more at The Guardian, The BBC & Current energy news.
